PCR tests detect the presence and absence of a genetic sequence (DNA or RNA) and its amount. This is conducted by a DNA/RNA extraction kit. The extraction kit is universal and not diseases specific. The second step is to the amplify the amount of genetic material present so that they are detectable and this is done by a PCR kit.
